Mighty Oaks Move on to Semifinals
Another Dominating Performance by the Mighty Oaks

The Chico Men’s Rugby Club (7-0) continues to show their dominance in the NCRFU DIII league this year with a first round playoff win against South Valley Rugby Club (4-4), 82-5. While South Valley was the bigger of the two teams Chico’s open style of played allowed them to score early and often on the day, with the first try coming in the first ten minutes of play. Six mighty Oaks made it over the line for tries on the day with Kyle Wright and Justin Ledyard scoring hat tricks. South Valley was able to dot one down when the ball got out to their big inside center as he ran by the Chico defense. Chico will need another strong performance as they take on Google Rugby Club this Saturday in Chico.
Game Plan for Google – More of the Same
The Mighty Oaks (7-0) will take on Google Rugby Club (7-1) this Saturday, 11:00am in Chico. Coach John Fox said the game plan “…is more of the same. We are a defensive team that scores lots of tries.” This can be seen by their huge point differential of 383 point over seven games as opposed to Google’s 312 point differential. These two teams look evenly matched however, Chico plans on fielding their best squad all season for this match. Fox is confident if they play their game this Saturday they will be moving on to the Championship. “I believe in this team and fell the difference is going to be we are a team and play as a team. If we play our game plan I expect we will be playing in the Finals on April 22nd.”
